Evolução do Cérebro e do Comportamento

This chapter provides a synopsis of some of the major events in the evolution of the vertebrate nervous system. what class; the spinal cord and the arrangement of the various tracts that compose it; the cerebellum and its functional and structural diversity; and the origin of the mammalian cerebral cortex. Other systems, mainly the brainstem and thalamus, were not included in this review. In the chapter, emphasis is given to embryological processes and patterns of gene expression that can evidence ancestral structures and transformation processes that occurred in the evolution of vertebrates. However, these interpretations are seen in a functional context, in which the most important changes were probably the result of the process of natural selection.
